South London's Childrens Choir

Young Voices is a youth choir for children aged 6 to 14. The choir is based in Tooting and is open to all boys and girls who love to sing and want to:

  • Perform in concerts and local music festivals
  • Make professional and seasonal recordings
  • Experience creative music making
  • Learn all elements of choral singing including vocal technique, ensemble singing, part singing, reading music, performance etiquette and general musicianship
  • Improve confidence and make new friends
  • Special workshops and occasional visits to shows and concerts.

Entrance is not by audition but all singers are heard individually by the Music Director when they join the choir and at the beginning of each school year. These are very informal, 5-minute sessions at which each singer sings a prepared song and takes simple aural tests. Promising singers are given the opportunity to take an active role in leading sections of the choir, singing more advanced repertoire and performing solos for recordings and concerts.

Young Voices performs as a single choir, but for most rehearsals we work in two groups - Junior and Senior. Juniors are promoted to Senior Choir at the invitation of the Music Director, if they demonstrate promising musicianship and technique.

Young Voices is not affiliated with the church and is open to children of all faiths or none.

Rehearsals:

Junior Choir 5.15 - 6.15 (includes short break)

Senior Choir 6.30 - 7.30 (includes short break)
